FELICITY CONDITIONS

Felicity conditions are conventions that speakers and hearers use as a code to produce recognize.

CHARACTERISTICS:

• Preparatory: Include the status or authority of the speaker

• Sincerity: The participants must have the appropiate thought

• Essential: Determinated by the perlocutionary effect of the speech act.

Felicity condition has five categories:

• Assertive: The speaker asserts a propositions to be true.

• Directives: Are commands and orders. the speaker tries to make the hearer do something.

• Commisive: Are promises

• Expressives: Are feelings

• Declaration: the speaker alters the external status or condition of an object or situation
